Planning approved for Asda store

A proposal submitted by Castlewood Developments (Birkenhead) to build a new Asda supermarket in Birkenhead’s town centre has been approved by Wirral Council.

The 8,360 sq m store will be constructed on land in Grange Road and work is due to begin in the autumn.

Councillor Simon Holbrook, the council’s deputy leader, said: “This news is a real boost to the Wirral economy and is a vote of confidence in Birkenhead town centre from a major retailer.

“We hope the store will act as a catalyst for other developments in the area and that local people will benefit from the many jobs created.

“The council have worked closely with the developer Castlewood Developments (Birkenhead) Ltd. and Asda over a number of years to ensure that Birkenhead gets the very best retail offer available.”
