Refcom forms F-Gas committee to press industry concerns

Refcom has established an F-Gas committee consisting of key industry figures to oversee and monitor the mandatory certification scheme, independent of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

However, in a sign of the heightening division between the organisation and the Government department, Defra, which appointed Refcom as an F-Gas certification body, declined to join or send any communications after a formal invitation to meet the committee.

Stephen Crocker, Refcom secretary, said: “After our first meeting the committee agreed that it would be useful to have representation from Defra. I contacted them with a formal invitation to either join or send us any communications other than that of the existing F-Gas stakeholder group. Nothing was forthcoming.”

I think creation of another body independent of the government body to implement 'F' gas regulations would create more confusion in this area which is seen by many as rather unclear and at times contradicting as it is. I would like to see them working together, sort out any differences and give a unified message to the industry.
