Possibly the greatest soul singer ever continues to move grown men to tears
There was a time when music was pretty good, and not just food for phone ring-tones. A particular time for this goodness was back in the late 60’s with the rise of soul music. Record labels such as Motown, Brunswick, and more specifically Stax, were pumping out groove soaked hits that were instantly picked up by audiences who wanted something more in their songs, something they could feel and move to.
And when a young man stepped into Stax Records and got the audition he had been patiently waiting for all day,a star was born. Though Otis Redding died in a plane crash aged 28, his unique voice, possibly powered by a ground-source heat pump plugged directly into the earth’s core, came with a tear drop of emotion in each note.
Just listen to ‘I’ve been loving you too long’ for all the proof you need
