Van registrations were up a significant 16.7 per cent for 2011, with December also getting a boost, with a rise of 2.8 per cent
Van registrations totalled 260,153 units in 2011, with December recording 18,415 vehicles on the books.
The biggest winners for the year was Ford, which shifted 70,226 vehicles, compared with 59,448 in 2010, followed by Vauxhall with 33,514 units for the year - 27,417 for 2010.
Third place was taken by Volkswagen which sold 31,716 vans, while in a closely fought battle Mercedes, Renault and Peugeot took fourth, fifth and sixth respectively with 19,495, 19,382 and 19,328
“The van and truck market has enjoyed a consistent growth throughout 2011,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive.
“Renewed business confidence fuelled the month-on-month rises, while innovative developments in vehicle design and technologies provided solid business reasons for companies to upgrade their vehicles in 2011.”
“There can be no room for complacency this year, government must deliver its growth strategy and help strengthen business and consumer confidence.”
