A-Gas launches flushing solution

A-Gas has developed a non-toxic, non ozone depleting easy-to-use solution for flushing refrigerant and air conditioning systems

Known as AK Flush, it provides a complete environmental solution when replacing refrigerants.

AK Flush has been designed with a range of polar solvents that dissolve and remove oil along with other particulates, sludge, acids, carbon residues and moisture to prevent compressor damage.

It is essential to remove any unwanted contaminants inside refrigerant and air conditioning systems including oils to reduce the risk of poor performance or system failure.

When carrying out full retrofits including oil change particularly when an HCFC refrigerant is being replaced with an HFC, all traces of previous residues must be removed to prevent the new refrigerant becoming contaminated or bringing older contaminants back into the compressor.

Flushing AK Flush through the systems removes contaminants and can also be used after a compressor ‘burnout’.

“AK Flush can be used on its own or as part of a comprehensive maintenance plan and provides an additional safety measure when retrofitting,” says Ken Logan, Managing Director of A-Gas.

A carbon dioxide propellant pushes the solvent into the system and the dissolved CO2 boils out of the solvent causing a ‘fizzing’ effect to aid cleaning. The non aqueous solvent blend has a low boiling point so it is easy to remove after cleaning using a nitrogen purge and subsequent system evacuation.

One 5kg pack is said to be sufficient for systems up to 50Kw. Systems with long pipe runs and wide diameter pipes may require a larger pack size which can be specified and priced on request.

AK Flush is delivered in a pressurised cylinder complete with an empty waste receptacle; both need to be returned to A-Gas via its nationwide wholesale distribution chain, once the job is complete. This will be handled as hazardous waste and reported through the correct Environmental Agency hazard waste management scheme.
