Asda to build largest Ulster store

More than 150 construction jobs will be created by the construction of Asda’s biggest ever store in Northern Ireland.

The construction of the huge outlet is beginning at the Junction One retail and leisure park in Antrim and is due to finish in early spring next year.

The selling area of 54,000 sq ft as well as over 600 parking spaces will make this the largest Asda in Northern Ireland.

It has taken four years for construction to get under way, but Shamus Jennings of Culzean Estates, the Junction One owners, said the project was eagerly anticipated and would create work for hundreds of people.

He added: “Junction One has already created over 1,500 jobs and it is even more important during this difficult economic downturn that further progress is being made to provide much needed work in both the construction and retail sectors.”

Asda currently has 14 stores in Northern Ireland.
