BEST offers first apprenticeship management scheme

Building Engineering Services Training (BEST) has introduced an ‘industry first’ with its Professional Apprenticeship Scheme

The scheme designed to provide employers with future managers and senior managers.

The BEST Professional Apprenticeship Scheme enables ambitious youngsters to progress from craft level to chartered engineer status.

As well as providing an alternative to the higher education path but, through BEST, enables employers to handpick at entry level the most talented and ambitious individuals the industry has to offer.

The final result will be highly skilled, highly educated and highly experienced senior management level employees who are invested in their company.

Endorsed and supported by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE) and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), as well as B&ES, the scheme benefits from government incentives of up to £1,500 per apprentice for employers new to apprenticeship schemes, in addition to training costs, which are fully funded for 16 to18 year olds.

The net benefits of taking on an apprentice have been shown to be worth more than £100,000, with cost recovery possible as early as the second year.

John Hayes, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, commented that BEST’s Professional Apprenticeship Scheme was exactly the type of professional apprenticeship route the Government wants to see more of.

Mr Hayes said: “Skills are economically vital. Employers can’t stay in business without people with the right skills for the job. Apprentices should have something to aspire to and be awarded recognition for their work, just as graduates are.”

Dr Mark Brenner, BEST Chief Executive, said: “It is important for businesses and the industry as a whole to invest in our employees because these individuals will become the managers of the future, driving our businesses and the industry forward.

BEST selects the most suitable candidate for your business needs and provides state of the art training, mentoring and technology support throughout the apprenticeship programme. The BEST Professional Apprenticeship Scheme is the greatest investment for your business.”
