Bob Shelley has been elected president of the HVCA for 2011/12.
Mr Shelley served a four-year technical engineering apprenticeship with national contractor Lorne Stewart, achieving qualifications in environmental engineering from South Thames College, Wandsworth, and South Bank Polytechnic. He is a chartered director, a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and an associate member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
After leaving Lorne Stewart in 1983, he held mechanical, design and engineering positions with Towco and Rotary Southern, before joining Lexair as operations director. He was a co-founder of CCA Building Services in 1990 and, following a period of self-employment, was recruited by Oxford-based contractor Sharp and Howse in 1994, initially as director designate. He was promoted to managing director of Sharp and Howse in 1995 and, in 2000, became a director of parent company Symm Group Ltd.
In 2011, he joined Argent FM as senior project manager, a position he continues to occupy. He has been a member of the Council of the Association since 2007.He served as chairman of the South East Regional Committee from 2009 until the spring of 2011, and as chairman of South Midlands Regional Branch for three years to 2008. He is vice chairman of the Commercial and Contractual Committee and a former member of the Midlands Engineering Services Contractors Safety Group.
Bob Shelley became vice president of the HVCA in July 2009 and president elect in July 2010. He succeeded to the presidency of the Association at its annual general meeting on 21 July 2011.
At the same meeting, Sue Sharp of Overclean became HVCA president elect, and Bruce Bisset of Galloway Group was elected vice president. Retiring president Martin Burton, of Delron Services, will serve during 2011/12 as immediate past president.
