British Film Institute seeks bidders for £9.5m cold storage unit

Contractors are being invited to bid for a £9.5 million contract to build a new master film store for the British Film Institute at its existing archive sites at Gaydon in Warwickshire.

The new archive will be used for the storage of master film collections which largely contain acetate and nitrate film.

The proposed 2,700 sq m facility is intended to be constructed primarily of pre-cast concrete and will contain a combination of mobile and static racking. It will provide controlled storage conditions at -5 deg C.

Works on site are expected to commence in Summer 2010 and the facility must be complete and fully operational by Autumn 2011.

Between four and eight firms will be invited to tender for the job on 12 February.

Contractors have until 14 January to submit pre-qualification questionnaires.
