Call for energy rating to be scrapped

Neil Afram, managing director of Space Air conditioning, has called on the industry to back the scrapping of the government’s SAP energy ratings for dwellings, claiming its “incapable of realistically representing current design practises or technological advancements.”

Mr Afram points to the Government’s new ‘Your Freedom’ website (http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk) launched this month, which allows people to suggest ideas on stripping away excessive regulation on businesses, as a means of communicating the message.

“This provides us with the perfect opportunity to call for the long overdue scrapping of SAP. If our Government is serious about achieving its carbon reduction targets for housing and cutting back on costly, pointless regulation and unnecessary bureaucracy,SAP should be scrapped in favour of a simplified building energy modelling programme similair to that used for buildings other than dwellings and which acknowledges current industry standards,” said Mr Afram
