Cardiff and Vale College offers new range RAC courses

Cardiff and Vale College claims new range of courses in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries are first in Wales

The City & Guilds courses are part-time day release courses and candidates need to be already employed within the industry to be eligible for a place on them.

They include qualifications that are industry requirements for any engineer who wants to work within the refrigeration or air conditioning industry.

The courses are:

•             Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, Testing and Maintaining Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems. On this course, you can either choose the Installing and Commissioning Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems or the Servicing and Maintaining Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems route. Engineers can progress on to the Level 3 Refrigeration course after completing this course.

•             Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Installing and Maintaining Refrigeration Systems. The course features safe working practices, environmental protection measures, scientific principles and site safety as well as specific modules on installation, pipework and testing.

•             Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Installing and Maintaining Air Conditioning and Heat Pump systems. The course also features safe working practices, environmental protection measures, scientific principles and site safety as well as specific modules on installation, pipework and testing.

The two Level 2 NVQ courses also feature the F Gas and ODS Regulations that are a requirement for all engineers working in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries. The College also offers the F Gas and ODS Regulations as a standalone qualification.

CAVC will offer Level 3 NVQ Diplomas in Installing and Maintaining Refrigeration Systems in September 2013.

College Head of Technology and Environmental Sustainability Bradley Tanner said: “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer these new courses that will offer important progression routes for people working within the air conditioning and refrigeration industries.”

Some people who have worked in these industries for many years might have the experience but not the formal qualifications and this is a great opportunity for them.”

“CAVC is now the only college in Wales that can give engineers the opportunity to train for advancement in air conditioning or refrigeration without having to travel out of the country.”
