CIBSE calls for building occupancy assessment

CIBSE supports call for Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) of all government buildings

In a statement the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers said: “Work undertaken by the CIBSE over many years has shown that Post Occupancy Evaluation of buildings is a proven tool for delivering better building performance and value for money.

The recent Report of The All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment: ‘A better deal for public building’ recognises this, and calls for Post Occupancy Evaluation to be required on all public building projects above a certain value.

CIBSE supports this call and working with the Technology Strategy Board  is developing a tool for Post Occupancy Evaluation, known as TM22, to support it.

CIBSE also provides a series of case studies, known as the Post Occupancy Review of Building Engineering (PROBE) Studies, which are available on the CIBSE website. These describe practical evaluation studies on a number of buildings.

The CIBSE Annual Conference takes place in London on October 10-11, 2012 and will be debating the challenges facing the industry as a whole and issues such as delivering better building performance.
