DECC to publish FIT consultation

The Department of Energy and climate change has today made an announcement on both the FiTs and RHI to introduce the publication of a consultation.

It will highlight enhancements to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and report on the Government’s decisions following consultation on Phase 2B of the comprehensive review of the Feed-in Tariffs scheme.

The Government response to the FITs consultation can be found on the Consultation on Comprehensive Review Phase 2B: Tariffs for non-PV technologies and scheme administration issues web page.

The RHI consultation documents can be found on the Renewable Heat Incentive: providing certainty and improving performance web page. The consultation closes on 14 September 2012.

Turbine installer Myriad CEG said the decision had created a narrow window of opportunity for investment, safeguarding jobs across the UK.

Phil McVan, managing director of Myriad CEG Windsaid the Government had listened in part to the sector’s concerns about feed-in-tariff (FiT) reductions, although it had called for a deadline of April 1 .

He said: “This is good news for the sector and for the development of vital renewable energy sources across the UK.

“The Government has listened to the concerns voiced by the industry and has also learned the lessons from the solar PV FiT fiasco and the damage that caused to solar power development and investment.

“It has also created a valuable window of opportunity for those investors and site owners who can move quickly to take advantage of the current higher tariff by completing installation before December 1.

“That should, hopefully, spark even greater interest in wind power among farming and rural businesses, which is good news for job security, investment and job creation.”
