Emerson Climate Technologies has announced the qualification of scroll and semi-hermetic compressors for the refrigerants R448A, R449A, R450A and R513A
Compressor giant Emerson Climate Technologies has qualified a range of HFOs for its compressor range, following successful completion of material compatibility testing, application guideline verifications and extensive life testing.
The firm said these new refrigerants have a lower GWP and could serve as replacements for existing refrigerants such as R404A, R507A, R407A/F and R134a, which are commonly used in commercial refrigeration equipment. In future R404A/ R507A will gradually disappear from the market, as a result from the forthcoming bans on HFCs
Dr Frank Rinne, Director Application Engineering at Emerson Climate Technologies Europe said: “It is important that our customers receive tested, proven and sustainable alternatives to existing refrigerants that have been targeted for phase down. To help our customers minimize the resource constraints and costs associated with a shift of this magnitude, we have been working to qualify products and equipment that will not only comply with this phase down proposal, but also with those in the foreseeable future.”
In order to support customers with this transition the company said it will publish retrofitting recommendations and updated technical guidelines on its website. Performance ratings and envelopes with Honeywell and DuPont’s new refrigerants can already be accessed for most Copeland semi-hermetic and Copeland Scroll compressors through ‘Select 7.11’, the new version of Emerson Climate Technologies’ Select Software, released in June 2015. Most of the Copeland semi-hermetic and Copeland Scroll compressors are released at this time. Emerson is however prepared to fully support customers’ requests. The detailed list of qualified compressors is available in the new Select 7.11 that is available on www.emersonclimate.eu.
