Any company handling refrigerants has only until July 4 to sign up with Refcom register, in order to comply with the F-Gas regulations. Refcom was recently approved by the government as the mandatory register of competent companies.
After July, companies that haven’t registered will be committing an offence and could be fined by local authority trading standards officers. Refcom now has two months to sign up the anticipated 8,500 contractors, maintenance departments and government operations that are in scope.
Initially companies will need an interim certificate, which applies until July 2011, costing around £100.
