Aviation supplier claims UK first installation with brazing-free aluminium pipework
GKN Aerospace, has installed 700 m of reflok Aluminium tube and connectors in 50,000sq ft premises in Bristol.
The UK-first installation, carried out by GKN facilities manager Inviron and local contracting team J. Bracey Electrical and Lane Air, was part of a retrofit to replace an existing R22 system. The installation used 225 reflok connectors, which doesn’t require brazing or hot works. The site reported that it worked perfectly first time without refrigerant leakage.
According to Bracey director Jamie Bracey, the most crucial factor was zero leaks, but that not requiring hot works would save the team three or four hours’ work a night.
He said: “We had thought for some time that there must be a better way to cut down costs and meet time constraints and reflok has allowed us to do that, but it also works within our own skillset. We could use reflok without the need to employ sub contractors. Our first reflok system had no leaks at all, and it turned out to be quicker and more cost effective, just as advertised. We would definitely recommend it.”
