First car cooled with HFO refrigerant arrives in Europe

Subaru is first outside US to use HFO1234yf, says auto press

The first car to use HFOs for its air conditioning is already being driven in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, according to reports in the auto press. The Subaru XV, an SUV, which reached UK dealers in February, was disclosed to be using HFO 1234yf at a recent car aftermarket conference, reported Aftermarket News.

HFO refrigerant manufacturers say a number of deals have been signed with carmakers, but that they are prevented by the terms of their agreements from publicising the fact themslves.

A number of car manufacturers have been granted the right to continue using R134a in new models until ‘volume production’ of the HFOs is available
