FSW partners with Refcom to offer free digital scales calibration

Joint venture formed to offer free UK calibration check on refrigeration scales being used to audit a company’s compliance with Refcom requirements

Distributor FSW has announced that all 24 of its branches in the UK have been classified as ‘Refcom Approved Digital Scales Calibration Check Centres’. This will allow the group to provide a function to ensure the wider industry complies with Refcom’s audit requirements in regards to F-Gas management.

The new service can be used to determine whether digital scales used by an organisation or individual are correctly aligned to perform self-certification. It is open to any company that wishes to calibrate their scales, even if they do not hold an account with FSW.

FSW said in a statement, “[We] do not calibrate or re-calibrate scales, it is simply a check to confirm if they are within the tolerances set out by Refcom to comply with their audit criteria.”

“Each FSW branch stocks a set three calibrated weights - 1kg, 5kg and 20kg. Each branch has own its own certificate of calibration for the weights.”

FSW has said that contactors have traditionally been required to purchase their own calibrated weights to perform self-certification on their digital scales.

Under the new system, devised in conjunction with Refcom head Graeme Fox, FSW has invested in 24 sets of calibrated and certified scales to allow for check to be performed at the 24 sites it operates in the UK.

The distributor’s own staff will perform calibration checks on scales brought in by companies for testing.

The distributor added, “FSW are pleased to be involved with Refcom with this joint venture and confident this new service will be welcomed by the industry.”
