The HVCA has named Scott Gleed, director of Ceilite Air Conditioning, as chairman of its rac group, representing contractors in the cooling sector.
In his inaugural speech Mr Gleed called on the industry to emphasise that the F-Gas regulations are no longer just
concerned with refrigerant handling but that they apply to those that install, service or maintain systems that contain or are designed to contain F-Gas.
He said:”I will continue to challenge and question to ensure the F-Gas regulations are interpreted in the spirit they were intended. We must promote and encourage the F-Gas regulations - there is a lack of awareness that
must also be attended to.
“In the final stages after we promote and encourage compliance, then enforcement and prosecution must follow to ensure companies comply.”
Mr Gleeds also underlined his support for the F-Gas Works campaign: “F-Gas works. It has been proven by STEK [the Dutch refrigerant monitoring scheme], and we will continue to work with others accordingly We must
protect the right to use HFCs. While the rac group supports the phase-down of HFCs, we also support and will encourage all contractors to comply with the F-Gas regulations. If we fail to make the F Gas Regulation work more effectively, we may face a possible ban on HFCs.”
