Government urged to support renewable schemes

Various organisations have joined together to urge the Government to boost the community renewable power and energy efficient schemes. The organisations include Co-operative, the National Trust, the Church of England and the Women’s Institute.

The organisations will meet Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey on behalf of their 12 million members.

They hope to launch a manifesto setting out the measures they say are needed to increase public acceptance of renewables.

The Co-operative has estimated that the UK potential for community-owned renewable energy installed by 2020 is 3.5 GW.
