Orlando Rawlings will be heading to Kazan in Russia for 45th global skills competition based on his work in RAC field
Orlando Rawlings, a refrigeration and air conditioning apprentice working with Daikin UK, will represent Great Britain at the WorldSkills competition later this year.
Mr Rawlings, who is also studying at the Grimsby Institute to gain his level 3 qualification, will travel to Kazan, Russia in August to take part in this year’s contest.
He added that he was “proud, but mostly overwhelmed” by being chosen for the contest after undertaking a number of tasks such as wiring and commissioning in a control system to prove his skills.
Mr Rawlings said, “It’s been a big extra commitment, with all of the additional training, but I’m really pleased I’ve made it this far.
“The college put me forward for it, after doing the regional round here this time last year, and both my tutors and employers have supported me all the way.”
Mr Rawlings will be joined by competitors from around the world at the 45th WorldSkills Competition, according to organisers.
Grimsby Institute Chief Executive Gill Alton OBE said, “This is fantastic news for both Orlando and the tutors. It goes to show what world class training is delivered in Grimsby, with this the second time we’ve had a representative at this prestigious world event.”
