Heat pumps prove most popular option for Renewable Heat Premium Payment

Heat pumps have proved popular to households for the governments renewable heat cash incentive, outstripping solar and biomass options

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has released the first details of households who have received the Renewable Heat Premium Payment. Of 2902 vouchers awarded, almost a third went to air source heat pump installations, (910), with a further 514 being awarded to installations of ground source heat pumps.

The payment of £850 for air source heat pump installations and £1250 for ground source or water source heat pumps is payable to households that meet certain criteria such as having MCS qualified installers and equipment.

More details of the process, which is open until March 31, from the Energy Saving Trust.
