HSE announces small-site inspection focus

The Health and Safety Executive has announced it will channel 70% of its inspection activities on small construction sites with less than five people are working.

Further areas of focus include refurbishment projects and checking that asbestos removal has been carried out by licensed contractors.

Home build and major projects will continue to be targeted for inspections.

HSE inspectors will assess activities including working at height, in addition to site conditions and management of health risks.

They will also consider asbestos risks and the provision of welfare facilities.

Particular initiatiatives within its activities include ensuring that work on fragile roofs and with fragile materials is properly planned and controlled.

The HSE will also be consulting on a revision to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 this year.

Further details can be found on the HSE website.
