Ms Perry from Daikin will take over role from Samantha Buckell to help lead work of steering group launched in 2016 to improve diversity across the refrigeration sector
Daikin’s Karen Perry has been appointed the new chairperson of the Institute of Refrigeration’s (IOR) Women in RACHP Network.
Ms Perry said her appointment would build on the network’s ongoing work to ensure a more diverse and inclusive workforce at all levels of the refrigeration industry.
IOR founded the Women in RACHP Network in 2016 to coincide with National Women in Engineering Day that is held each year on 23 June. A key focus of the network is to promote the refrigeration sector as a viable and attractive career path for women, while also holding a range of training events and opportunities to share current industry experiences.
During the course of 2019, the IOR has held its ‘100 for a 100’ campaign that set a target to boost female membership in the organisation.
The IOR said that female membership has doubled over the course of the campaign, with 81 members being recruited. The organisation said, “With two recently elected female board members and an active IOR Women in RACHP we expect female membership to grow further.”
Ms Perry said she would be expanding on work already undertaken as part of the network’s key focus to improve female representation in the industry.
She added, ““Having worked in this industry for 25 years, I hope to share positive experience and ideas to support women in the industry and also attract new people through our network.”
Ms Perry has taken over the chair role from Samantha Buckell, who has overseen the group’s work for the three years since it was first launched.
Ms Buckell welcomed the growth of the network since 2016 and the appointment of her successor.
She said, “I have been very lucky to be part of a conscientious hard-working team of people from the industry. One of our main strengths is undoubtably inclusivity.” Ms Buckell added, “Karen is the perfect person to move the Steering Group into its next stage and I am very excited to see where we go next.”
