MacWhirter Ltd celebrates 130-year anniversary

Refrigeration and air conditioning company, MacWhirter Limited celebrates its 130th anniversary.

MacWhirter Limited was established in Glasgow in 1882, with the company opening its headquarters in Cardiff in 1912.

It now has offices in Cardiff, Bristol, Horsham, Torquay and London, employing around 140 people, many of whom join straight from school and remain through to retirement.

They have expanded to offer a wide range of services including, heating, air conditioning, clean rooms, cold rooms, lighting, power, communications, and waste and effluent services to hospitals, factories, offices, local authority buildings, residential accommodation and hotels and leisure complexes.

Anthony MacWhirter, CEO, MacWhirter Ltd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 130th anniversary this year – it’s an extraordinary milestone.”

Anthony joined the Cardiff branch of MacWhirter Limited from school in 1969. His son, Ross MacWhirter is currently a senior manager of the Horsham Branch, retaining the company’s family legacy.
