Mexichem Fluor has announced the acquisition acquisition of the former Showa Denko HFC plant located at Kawasaki, Japan
The plant, which was shut down at the end of 2009, has an annual production capacity of 10 Ktes and can selectively produce R-125 or R-134a. It is currently in the process of being recommissioned and will commence production during Q4 2011. The plant will initially focus on R-125 production as demand for this key raw material increases.
The completion of this acquisition represents a significant step for Mexichem in its strategy to accelerate its growth and position in the blends market whilst building on its existing R-125 production capability in the UK. The Kawasaki plant compliments Mexichem’s existing refrigerant business and will become the onlyproducer of R-125 in Asia, outside of China.
Hector Valle, CEO, Mexichem Fluor, said ’ I am pleased to conclude this agreement with Showa Denko as the next step in our integration strategy since the acquisition of INEOS Fluor in 2010. Mexichem Fluor is committed to the development of its fluorochemicals capability and providing a comprehensive portfolio of products to the refrigerant sector’.
