Cool-Therm launches new generation of ultra-green Turbomiser chillers based on HFO refrigerants
The ultra-efficient chillers run on HFO1234ze, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 6 compared with 1300 for the popular refrigerant R134a, making it much more environmentally attractive.
The company claims that trials to date suggest that the energy efficiency of the new HFO systems compares favourably with Turbomiser systems running on R134a.
The company will launch the HFO solution at the forthcoming CIBSE Building Services Exhibition in London.
Ken Strong, managing director of Cool-Therm, says: “With a much lower GWP and efficiency that matches or is better than R134a, the new HFO Turbomisers offer the industry and end users a highly competitive green solution, which delivers both for the environment and for clients seeking to cut their running costs and carbon emissions.”
The technology behind Turbomiser is already proven, with some 200 installations across the UK in applications as diverse as hotels, data centres, universities, commercial offices and industrial process applications.
Cool-Therm says a recent installation of six Turbomisers at Colt Technology’s data centre in Wapping, London, has resulted in a 55 per cent reduction in energy consumption – and significant reductions in service and maintenance costs.
As a consequence, the site’s PUE has been reduced by 24 per cent, representing a huge saving in electrical power of 140kW at a given point in time. Over the lifespan of the equipment, it is estimated that Colt will have reduced their carbon emissions by at least 20,000 tons of CO2.
Ken Strong said: “Turbomiser has established its energy and running cost-saving credentials beyond any doubt, in scores of projects. The latest development harnessing HFO refrigerants offers a dream ticket, with a combination of proven energy savings, reduced service and maintenance costs and ultra-low Global Warming Potential.”
“With continuing rises in energy prices and pressure on industry to reduce carbon emissions, we believe it offers a long term solution that will be hard to ignore.”
Visitors to the Building Services Exhibition are invited to drop by on the Cool-Therm stand (B10) to discuss the benefits of Turbomiser and the latest HFO option, and see the Saifor offering first hand.
