Starts trials of vending machines using CO2
PepsiCo has become the latest soft drinks producer to trial vending machines running on natural refrigerants, operating what it claims is the USA’s first CO2-cooled vending units.
The firm said that it is running thousands of test machines around the world using carbon dioxide, propane and isobutene.
But the firm is particularly emphasising the energy efficiency of its new green machines, since it says energy accounts for 95 per cent of a vending machine’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The trial machines, installed in Washington DC, US, claim 12 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions than their predecessors, along with an unspecified reduction in energy.
