The development has seen a new retrofit aerofoil system that keeps more of the cool air inside the refrigerator cabinet, this innovative technology will result in significant energy savings.

Ian Turner, senior aerodynamicist at Williams said: “The problem of keeping cold air in an open fronted cabinet is largely an aerodynamic one so we are applying our F1 expertise to the problem.”

Sainsbury’s has been testing the product at a number of its stores, with corresponding benefits for their carbon footprint.
