Hotel and restaurant chain Whitbread has set out plans for further growth after reporting a 3.1 per cent increase in revenue in its interim results this morning.
Whitbread’s turnover was £703.3 million for the six months to 27 August 2009, although its underlying profit before tax was down 2.7 per cent to £118.2 million.
Whitbread opened more than 1,000 Premier Inn hotel rooms and 100 Costa coffee shops in the first half, as well as securing a hotel pipeline of 10,000 rooms. Total Group cash capital expenditure on property, plant and equipment during the six months was £78 million.
The firm said: “We will be well prepared to increase the rate of expansion when the time is right.”
Premier Inn recently announced plans to build four new hotels at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted to open on a phased basis from 2011.
